Need to boost your team with energetic and inspired young people - while the government pays their wages?
The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create 6-month work placements for 16 to 24 year-olds.
Funding available for each job will cover the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus National Insurance contributions and minimum automatic enrolment contributions.
There's also up to £1,500 available per placement to pay for training - and get them ready for permanent employment or apprenticeships.
B&FC can work with you to identify and deliver training required to help you get the most from each of your placements. Training might include digital courses, and Functional Skills - including English and Maths.
The Kickstart Scheme is a fantastic, no-risk way to offer a young person a start in employment.
Employers of all sizes can apply for Kickstart Scheme funding which covers:
- 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months
- associated employer National Insurance contributions
- employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions

Beyond the Kickstart Scheme: apprenticeships
75% of employers who have taken on apprentices have reported that they have improved the quality of their product or service.
With a B&FC apprenticeship, you can continue to invest in a person’s future, while developing vital skills to futureproof your business.
Apprenticeships combine on-the-job training with working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Apprentices are mostly work-based, with some requiring time each week attending College to expand their knowledge and skills.
Funding for apprenticeships is available to all non-levy companies.
Hiring an apprentice is a way to develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce for the future as well as increase productivity and reduce staff turnover.
Apprenticeships are not only available for new staff – you can upskill your existing workforce too. Courses range from a level 2 all the way up to a level 7 Master’s degree with courses for all industries.
Apprenticeships are available to anyone over the age of 16 wishing to work towards a nationally recognised qualification and develop a career at the same time.
