Course SummaryThis course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in construction, specifically in carpentry and joinery. Students can also use this T Level to progress to a related higher-level apprenticeship or course of study at a higher level. During the 2-year programme, students will develop the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of construction occupations. You will be specialising in plastering on this course. Other Onsite Construction T Levels are available, specialising in one of the following: Bricklaying Plastering Painting and decorating , Entry Requirements 16-18 year olds wanting to develop a broad range of construction skills with a specialism in carpentry and joinery will find this course gives them the practical experience coupled with the technical knowledge either to go on to further study or move into employment. 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above in English and Maths a successful interview with a tutor the ability to study independently a genuine interest in the subject good communication skills hardworking approach towards the industry All 16-18 year old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course. Essential Skills – English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Qualification ObtainedT Level Technical Qualification in Onsite Construction Industry Placement and Field TripsThis course features a mandatory 750-hour work placement over the two years, designed to enhance learning and increase your employability. We will also invite you to attend mandatory relevant field trips and career events, which you could draw from to enhance your CV and personal statement. Learning and Teaching Methods All students will develop a general understanding of construction, including: Health and safety The science behind building design, surveying and planning Making accurate and appropriate measurements Construction methods Building regulations and standards Data management and information standards in construction Relationship management and customer service How the Internet of Things (IoT) impacts construction Digital engineering techniques Mathematical techniques to solve construction problems Construction design principles and processes The construction industry and its role in the economy Sustainability and the environmental impact of construction Business, commerce and corporate social responsibility Teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided to help with completing written assignments. When you start the course we will assign you a progress tutor who will support you throughout your time here. Their role is to help you in setting academic and personal targets, identifying career plans, developing employability skills and monitoring your progress to make sure you realise your full potential. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.
