What will I learn? Key information Course SummaryThe aim of this course is to provide electricians with the skills and knowledge required to install small scale photovoltaic (PV) systems. The course has been structured to meet the requirements of the National Occupational Standards and is recognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Over 5 days candidates will learn how to select most appropriate solar Photovoltaic system for a property to meet the client’s needs and to commission and handover the system. It will also provide an understanding of all the legal issues surrounding the installation of these systems and guidance on completion and submission of all the appropriate notifications. Once awarded, the certificate is normally valid for 5 years before it needs to be renewed. Entry RequirementsTrainees must hold a formal craft qualification e.g. N/SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation (Buildings and Structures) or equivalent earlier certification that includes Inspection & Testing or a recognised Part P competence certification that includes Inspection & Testing. Trainees must also hold a BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification. Trainees can enrol for the course if they meet the requirements of the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) and have a minimum 2 years’ experience with demonstrable evidence as well as being a member of a Competent Person Scheme (CPS). Qualification ObtainedNon regulated provision, Level 3, Building and Construction Industry Placement and Field TripsWork placements and field trips are not an integral part of this course. Learning and Teaching MethodsAt Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and our tutors work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you like to learn. Your tutors ensure that demonstrations are used whenever possible so you can see the practical skill being used so you can then practise the skill. Following demonstrations, you will then have hands on practical time where you will be implementing the skill learned. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
