Course SummaryThis exciting and unique Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma is the first of its kind in the UK. The units for the qualification are centred on training you in the most important and up-to-date sectors of the automotive industry. The units are designed to not only increase your automotive knowledge but also upskill you in relevant academic areas such as research and assignment/report writing, equipping you for progression to our Automotive and Motorsport Engineering Technology Honours Degree. Entry Requirements We are looking for motivated individuals who are keen to expand their automotive and academic capabilities and skills via a range of modern teaching techniques and facilities here at Blackpool and The Fylde College. Mandatory: You must have already achieved a Level 3 in a relevant discipline. You must be able to work hard and maintain high levels of attendance You should have a passion to study a wide variety of different automotive relating units and a desire to progress onto the degree course. You should have the ambition to achieve success as a graduate working in the automotive and motorsport design and manufacturing sector. Qualification ObtainedAccess to HE Diploma (Automotive Engineering) Industry Placement and Field TripsThere is no mandatory industry placement or field trip requirements with this course. Learning and Teaching Methods The qualification is made up of a blend of taught classroom and online sessions, practical sessions and directed study. Practical skills development will take place in our Advanced Technology Centre, where huge investment ensures you have access to facilities, tools and equipment that rival those in the best commercial settings. There is a very supportive approach from a highly experienced teaching team and you will have the opportunity to work in small groups to maximise interaction with your tutors. You will be encouraged to participate in seminars in order to prepare you for life as a Higher Education student. This will involve sharing your thoughts and opinions with your fellow students and the teaching team. Timetabled sessions total around 18 hours a week (324 hours over the year) with the course generally running over three full days from 9am to 4pm. We also expect you to spend a further 6 hours each week on independent study. During this time you might be researching, doing background reading or creating drafts and final reports Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. . Assessment Methods Assessments across the qualification are designed to get the best out of you. These include: Practical skills assessments Written reports Assignments Presentations Other Costs and Equipment NeededYou will need to provide your own safety boots and overalls / boiler suit for practical activities. A typical pair of safety boots should cost no more than £12 and a pair of overalls £15. All other protective equipment will be provided by us. All tools and equipment are provided for practical sessions and access to computers and all software required for the course is available within the College facilities.
