Course Summary Engineering operatives are predominantly involved in engineering operations which are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector allowing employers to grow their business while developing a work force with the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the sustain the sector. The role covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry sectors during the course of their careers. Dependent on the sector that they are employed in there may be subtle differences in terms of composition and application of the job role specific skills and knowledge they will require, however the core skills and knowledge will be the same regardless of the sector/area they work in. , Entry Requirements Ideally applicants will hold five GCSEs including English and Maths at grade 3 (D) or higher. If you do not hold the relevant Mathematics and English qualifications, you will be expected to undertake functional skills in both subjects. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16, whether they have just left school or have been working for years. In order to enrol onto an Apprenticeship, you need to be employed in a relevant job role and undertake a range of tasks which would enable you to complete the Apprenticeship qualification. Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Engineering operatives working within a fabrication role will have knowledge of: Specific marking out and preparation techniques Different fabrication and joining techniques Specific safe working practices, isolation procedures and safe reinstating of equipment/system that need to be observed And skills to: Shape the materials using the appropriate methods and techniques Join the materials using the appropriate methods and techniques Produce components which meet the specification requirements Carryout quality checks during and after the fabrication activities Industry Placement and Field Trips You will be employed for at least 30 hours per week in engineering operations. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
