Course Summary Prepare for university and/or a career in the growing area of animal science with this exciting new Level 3 Triple Diploma. Through a range of practical and theory sessions, you will learn the specifics of animal biology, interaction, training, behaviour, grooming and conservation. A relevant work placement will allow you to develop your employability skills and there is even the opportunity to demonstrate your learning with your own pet at home. Delivered in excellent facilities by a highly qualified team of tutors and technicians, the course features guaranteed progression to our BSc (Hons) Marine Biology (subject to completion criteria). Entry Requirements 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths a successful interview with a tutor the ability to study independently a genuine interest in the subject good communication skills hardworking approach towards the industry All 16-18 year old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course. Essential Skills – English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. Qualification Obtained BTEC National Extended Diploma in Animal Management You will cover the following modules as part of this course: Animal Breeding and Genetics Animal Genetics Animal Welfare and Ethics Practical Animal Husbandry Practical Skills in Animal Science Animal Behaviour Animal Health and Diseases Work Experience in the Animal Sector Investigative Research Project Animal Metabolism Advanced Animal Nutrition Animal Grooming Aquatic Animal Health and Husbandry Human and Animal Interaction Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Management Industry Placement and Field Trips This course features a compulsory work placement (minimum 20 hours), with the opportunity to develop your skills in a realistic industry setting. You can also look forward to field trips to local animal institutions. Learning and Teaching Methods We use a variety of learning and teaching methods, designed to emphasise the link between knowledge and application. These include lectures, demonstrations, practical investigations, seminars, workshops, tutorials, project work, supervised independent learning, open and resource-based learning, online learning and a work placement. Teaching is both tutor-led and student-led, with group work playing a part as well as individual learning to provide a well-rounded learning experience that caters for different learning styles. The course comprises a total of 400 timetabled hours and you will be expected to devote an additional 100 hours to online learning. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods The first three modules listed in the 'What will I learn?' sectionare assessed externally, while all of the others are assessed by coursework.
