Through a range of practical and theory sessions, you will learn the specifics of animal biology, interaction, training, behaviour, grooming and conservation. A relevant work placement will allow you to develop your employability skills and there is even the opportunity to demonstrate your learning with your own pet at home. Essential Skills – English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. Qualification ObtainedBTEC National Extended Diploma in Animal Management Industry Placement and Field TripsThis course features a compulsory work placement (minimum 20 hours), with the opportunity to develop your skills in a realistic industry setting. You can also look forward to field trips to local animal institutions. Learning and Teaching Methods We use a variety of learning and teaching methods, designed to emphasise the link between knowledge and application. These include lectures, demonstrations, practical investigations, seminars, workshops, tutorials, project work, supervised independent learning, open and resource-based learning, online learning and a work placement. Teaching is both tutor-led and student-led, with group work playing a part as well as individual learning to provide a well-rounded learning experience that caters for different learning styles. The course comprises a total of 400 timetabled hours and you will be expected to devote an additional 100 hours to online learning. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods The first three modules listed in the 'What will I learn?' sectionare assessed externally, while all of the others are assessed by coursework.
