Course SummaryThis brand new Level 2 course for adults is designed to prepare students for progression onto a Level 3 the following year. You will experience a good number of practicals, experiments, visits and guest lecturers (where possible) to provide an excellent learning experience on the L2 Principles of Science programme. As well as completing the L2 qualification, plus any English and Maths content you need to achieve, your studies will be enhanced by content specifically selected for you. Entry Requirements Entry requirements will be discussed on an individual basis. Essential Skills English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. Qualification ObtainedBTEC First Award in Principles of Applied Science Industry Placement and Field TripsWe aim to provide a number of field trips as part of this course which may incur a small cost or travel arrangements. We encourage work placements as part of the whole student programme. Learning and Teaching Methods The course covers core scientific principles in the three key science disciplines: chemistry, physics and biology. These are placed in context so that students begin to understand the chemistry of the earth, the physics of the universe and the biology of the environment. Students can then choose to specialise by focussing on optional modules in one discipline or generalise by taking a range of modules across all disciplines. We use a variety of learning and teaching methods, designed to emphasise the link between knowledge and application. These include lectures, demonstrations, practical investigations, seminars, workshops, tutorials, project work, supervised independent learning, open and resource-based learning, e-learning and work placements. Teaching is both tutor-led and student-led, with group work playing a part as well as individual learning to provide a well-rounded learning experience that caters to different learning styles. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods This course is assessed by a single exam at the end of the academic year. You will, however, be regularly assessed through practical and written assignments throughout the year and receive regular feedback during the course to help you to develop and improve your skills and knowledge. Other Costs and Equipment NeededYou will need to purchase study essentials such as a notepad and stationery. Tuition Fees Please read our tuition fee guide.
