What will I learn? How will I be assessed? Key information Where could this course take me? Course Summary Talent 4 Care is a 5 week programme which is aimed at those wishing to gain work in the health and social care sector. This could be in a hospital environment, care home, working as a home carer in the community or as a personal assistant. Over 5 weeks (Monday to Thursday 10.00 am – 2.30 pm) you will study and gain 4 qualifications, all of which will help prepare you for work in this area. These are: Level 1 Preparing to Working in Adult Social care Level 1 Certificate in Well-being Level 1 Introduction to Safeguarding (Certified Unit) Level 1 Certificate in Job Search and Employment Potential As part of the course you will also learn how to complete an application form, prepare covering letters and construct a CV, all of which will help you in your search for employment. You will also be linked with key employers in the health and social care sector and have the opportunity to attend interviews for current live vacancies. Much of the teaching will be conducted remotely. This means that you are able to study from home at the scheduled times with live teaching sessions delivered online. The tutor will also be available for daily support after the teaching has taken place and will guide you from the beginning to the completion of the programme. You will attend the Health and Social Care Career Academy (Bickerstaffe House) for a 3 hour induction session and again once during the programme to complete your CV. There are also 2 scheduled Friday workshops on weeks 2 and 4 for additional support. Entry Requirements No previous training or experience is required for this programme but you must be over 19 year of age on the 31st August before the course start date. Qualification Obtained Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care This programme consists of 4 qualifications. The units of each are detailed below: Level 1 Preparing to Working in Adult Social Care Introduction to the adult social care sector Introduction to the values and principles of adult social care Awareness of the skills and attitudes needed to work in adult social care Awareness of communication in adult social care Awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the adult social care worker Level 1 Certificate in Well-being Develop an awareness of mental health Develop an awareness of substance misuse Personal safety awareness Introductory awareness of the importance of healthy eating and drinking for adults Introduction to alcohol awareness for the individual. Level 1 Certificate in Job Search and Employment Potential Preparing to achieve own job goals Promoting yourself and preparing for a job interview Motivation for work Money matters for employment Recruitment methods Understanding business culture and values Level 1 Awareness of Protection and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare (Certified Unit) Industry Placement and Field Trips This is a knowledge-only qualification. There are no work placements and no field trips on this programme. Teaching and Learning Methods This course will be delivered over 5 weeks with some remote live lectures and support sessions (Monday to Thursday 10.00 am – 2.30 pm from the course start date). Within these sessions there will be tutor delivery, question and answer, discussion, group work tasks and individual tasks. You will attend onsite for an induction to ensure you can access all online resources and to meet your tutor then again during the programme to complete your CV. There are also two scheduled Friday workshops on weeks 2 and 4 for additional support Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Other Costs and Equipment Needed As this course is delivered online, regular access to IT is essential in order to attend the sessions and to complete the assessment tasks/electronic workbooks. All other equipment/resources you require for this course are provided by B&FC at no extra cost. Career Options and Progression This programmes is designed to support you in gaining employment in the health and social care sector, such as in a care home or in a hospital or working as a home carer. Following on from this you may be invited to complete a further 5 week programme (Part 2) and will also have the opportunity to progress onto other specialist Level 2 qualifications with us.
