Course SummaryAvailable only to students who have applied for a degree level course at B&FC, this 6 week programme will help to ensure your life at university gets off to a flying start. You'll learn all the key study skills you need to begin your course with confidence, including how to use the vast array of resource materials available to you, how to conduct academic research and how to write degree-standard essay. Of course, success at university is just about having the practical skills to manage your studies. it's also about coping with the various challenges that studying for a degree can present. Issues like managing your time, coping with stress and dealing with life beyond your studies are all part of the programme so that you can start as you mean to go on. What's more, you'll have the opportunity to meet your tutors and fellow students so that come September you'll recognise a familiar face or two. Entry Requirements This course is ideal for anyone planning to study at degree level whether you are progressing straight from school or college or whether you are returning to study after time in the workplace. Having an active application to study for a degree level qualification at Blackpool and the Fylde College is the only formal requirement for enrolment. Qualification ObtainedCertificate in Skills for Further Education and Employment Learning and Teaching Methods Each week you will attend a 3 hour session in which a variety of teaching methods will be employed which will mirror the teaching that students will experience once studying for their degree. These methods will include informal lectures, group discussions and activities as well as directed research activities. You will complete a series of workbooks, prepare an essay and submit a presentation as evidence for completion of the course. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. The course consists of eight separate modules, one for each week of the course. These include: Academic Writing Skills Essay Writing Practical Presentation Skills Presentation Software Research Skills for Academic Study Self-development Stress Management Techniques Time Management If you are enrolling on to an Engineering or Science Programme, you will also focus on improving maths and learn to create technical reports. Learning and Teaching Methods Each module will be covered in a 3 hour session which will be followed by a 1 hour drop-in workshop to assist with any assessments. A variety of teaching methods will be employed which will mirror the teaching that students will experience once studying for their degree.
