Specifically, you will learn about filing and buffing techniques, cuticle work, massage techniques, specialist treatments and enamel application (dark and French). You will also explore the area of client care and communication, and gain relevant health and safety knowledge. Our teaching team is made up of industry experts in their field, all with a wealth of salon experience. Qualification Obtained NVQ Award in Providing Manicure Services Industry Placement and Field TripsThere is no industry placement or field trip attached to this course. Learning and Teaching Methods Our expert tutors understand that everyone learns in different ways so they use a range of teaching methods to enable everyone to achieve their potential. A key method used is demonstration, which allows you to observe the practical application of skills before having a go yourself, on your peers and also on real clients in our working salons. The course comprises group work as well as presentations. E-learning is a key element of all our programmes and we also use a range of on-line apps to support, enhance and motivate learning. Your tutors will support you with these technologies and also in preparing for exams. Tuition is timetabled for 1 day a week over 5 weeks. The course also incorporates periods of self-study (which your tutor will guide you on) and you will also need to devote additional time (outside of timetabled hours) to your learning. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Other Costs and Equipment NeededYou will need to provide your own stationery, including pens, notepad and an A4 folder. You will also need a bun ring since hair must be kept up in a bun at all times while at College. The purchase of a fob watch is optional. If you need a replacement ID badge, the cost will be £3 (or £8 if incorporated with a bus pass). We supply up to 80 free black and white photocopies per student. Career Options and Progression Viable career routes exist in commercial salons, day/destination spas and as an independent/self employed therapist in a mobile, home or salon-based setting. This is an internationally recognised qualification so travelling abroad to work or on cruise ships is also an option. This qualification also provides eligibility to become a member of one of the following recognised professional bodies: British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) The primary aim of this qualification is employment but it also acts as an excellent springboard to additional skills and study, such as a level 3 qualification.
