Course Summary Start your journey towards a career in business with the STEPS programme starting in April, the programme has been co-created with employers to develop skills in business administration, marketing, digital promotion and team leadership. This programme is made up of qualifications which will equip you with the skills and knowledge to progress onto one of the level 3 Business courses designed to progress into higher education or employment. After successful completion of the STEPS programme you will achieve all or some of the following qualifications: NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Digital Promotion for Business Pearson Level 2 Certificate in Business Administration Pearson Level 2 Certificate in Marketing Fundamentals Pearson Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leadership Students are invited to apply for single qualifications, all four are not compulsory. The Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading for Business course lasts 5 weeks and will take place during the daytime, currently scheduled across two and a half days (Monday, Tuesday and Friday). This course is designed for adults (19+) who wish to upskill to gain employment within the business or events sector. The Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading is designed for team leaders; to support the development of their skills in leading a team, making sure that team’s work achieves organisational objectives, and contributing to planning, problem solving and decision making. This qualification will: focus on the study of Team Leadership within a business setting offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills. Entry Requirements This programme is for adults aged 19 and over who are seeking to gain qualifications within the fundamentals of business. You will also need to complete a basic entry assessment, and we will invite you to have an informal discussion with the Course Tutor. Qualification Obtained BTEC Certificate in Principles of Team Leading Learning and Teaching Methods The Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading comprises of the following topics: Understanding the Role of the Team Leader (22%) Principles of Developing Team Performance (22%) Understanding Personal Development (22%) Principles of Managing and Supporting Team Members (34%) Industry Placement and Field Trips There are no work placement opportunities or field trips associated with this course. At Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and for some it may be a return to the classroom following a break from formal learning. Our tutors work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you like to learn. One key teaching and learning method is that of demonstrations. Your tutors ensure that demonstrations are used whenever possible so you can see the practical skill being used and then practise the skill yourself. You will work collaboratively with your peers in group work, presentations and within practical sessions. There will be dedicated individual/self-study time on your programme which needs to be supported by your own study out of the College learning environments. E-learning is also a key element of all our courses and will involve you using our Moodle platform for independent study and learning. Within the curriculum we also use a range of on-line apps to support, enhance and motivate learning. Your tutors will be support you with new technologies used in the classroom. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods The objectives of this qualification are to: Develop knowledge related to team leadership styles, the roles and responsibilities of a team leader, planning and allocating work, developing team performance, setting targets and monitoring the work of a team Learn about the core knowledge required to work as a Team Leader, Section Leader, Floor Leader, Trainee Supervisor, Call Centre Team Manager or Supervisor Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 2 qualification Develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning. Assessment is 100% coursework through a variety of internally assessed methods, including assignments, workbooks, presentations, interviews and practical assessments. Other Costs and Equipment Needed All students will be expected to provide their own stationery, to include: pens, notepad and an A4 folder. Replacement ID badges will be at a cost of £3 or £8 if incorporated with a bus pass. For photocopying, students are provided with the first 80 black and white free of charge. Any additional copies for black and white are charged at 4p per copy. An extra curricula calendar will be made available at the start of the academic year. There will be a wide variety of opportunities for participation, however, these are not mandatory. The costs will vary according to activity and will be available to you at sign up. Career Options and Progression Successful completion of the STEPS study package will allow you to enrol on to one of these courses: Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Business Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Business Administration With the additional year studying level 3 you may then be eligible to progress into Higher Education. Many other students progress into employment after their studies.
