Course Summary This course will explore the cultural development of fashion during the twentieth century, from the beginnings of Haute Couture to the youth movements of the fifties. Fashion is now considered a useful social indicator and can also hold political and psychological value. The course will encourage you to examine ideas around personal identity, semiotics and luxury versus mass market, and will comprise a series of lectures and debates. You will be tasked with some research to undertake between sessions which will allow you to participate actively in the course. Entry Requirements There are no formal entry requirements for this course apart from being 19+. All we ask is that you come with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Qualification Obtained There is no formal qualification associated with this course. Industry Placement and Field Trips N/A Learning and Teaching Methods This course focuses on the cultural theory of fashion and will be delivered through a series of lectures after which students will be encouraged to share ideas and opinions either in small groups or as part of a classroom debate.
