Course Summary This Apprenticeship offers a combination of qualifications that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need for styling both hair and facial hair. Once qualified, many Apprentices go on to run their own successful salons or work in a mobile capacity. Meanwhile, others use their skills in other areas such as behind the scenes in film and television. , Entry Requirements All Apprenticeships require an initial assessment, interview and employment in the industry. At Level 2 you’ll need four GCSEs at grade 3 (formerly D) or above including English and maths, or the willingness to work towards these as part of your Programme. You will need to have good people, dexterity and communication skills as well as a desire to work professionally with the general public. Teaching and learning methods includes: • One to one support in the work place. • Discussions, • Reflected accounts • Practical observations will cover the majority of assessments during the course Industry Placement and Field Trips The Apprentice must be if full time employment, working a minimum of 30 hours a week with a contract of employment. The employer must be in agreement to allow the Skills Coach and Specialist Practitioner access to the learner. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods This is a level 2 programme, with a during of up to 24 months . Assessment includes course work, exams (written and practical), oral questioning, a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments. Examples of Level 2 units include: ‘cutting men’s hair using basic techniques’, ‘cutting facial hair to shape using basic techniques’, ‘drying and finishing men’s hair’ and ‘advising and consulting clients’ You will also complete an end point assessment, which consists of: • A practical assessment • Oral Questioning The above will assess the apprentice’s professionalism, values, behaviours, communication, safe working practices and consultation skills Other Costs and Equipment Needed You will be expected to purchase any equipment / tools required which will enable to carry out this activity – ie – scissors. Career Options and Progression The Level 2 Apprenticeship may give you the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Barbering. After Level 3 you will be a qualified Barber equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications to work in the industry.
