Course Summary The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. The apprenticeship standard has a set of skills. Knowledge and behaviours that are captured through a programme of learning and a portfolio of evidence. Entry Requirements will be a matter for individual employers, typically you will be expected to have already achieved 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English, Grade C or above or 4/5 (new grading) or Level 2 Functional skills/key skills in Maths/English. Students should be at least 16 years old and in, or about to commence, employment in a new or changed job role for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Where an employer cannot offer 30 hours per week of employment due to working practices, the duration of the Apprenticeship must be increased relative to the reduction in hours. Modules cover the following content: Understand how pupil learn and develop Technology in schools Working with teachers to understand and support assessment for learning Curriculum knowledge and application Keeping children safe in education Communication and team work Problem solving and the ability to motivate students Building relationships and embracing change Adding value to education The functional skills element of the qualification (if required) is delivered by specialist tutors, who will provide support either in the college environment or within the work place. Additional learning support is available if required. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods You will be working towards a set of skills, knowledge and behaviours that will be showcased at end point assessment by an external assessor through an observation, professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence. Other Costs and Equipment Needed There may be an employer contribution of 5% needed towards the total cost of the apprenticeship. Students or employers are required to pay for a DBS check.
