Lay the foundations for an exciting career as a marine biologist with our two-year Foundation Degree Marine Biology. Modules are brought to life through fascinating field trips arranged in association with the Environment Agency, with other industry partners helping to shape a lively curriculum aimed at significantly enhancing your employability. At the end of the course you can progress to our one-year top-up honours course in the same discipline, designed to increase your career prospects even further. You will need a minimum of 80 UCAS points (excluding Functional Skills) to include at least one subject from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography or Environmental Science OR a BTEC/QCF Diploma in a science discipline (such as Applied Science or Animal Management) plus GCSEs in English Language and Maths at grade 4 (previously grade C) or above.
We will also consider applicants who can demonstrate relevant work/voluntary experience on an individual basis.
Modules and Assessment
Teaching and Learning Methods
Teaching features a mix of tutor-led, student-led and independent learning sessions, with small-sized seminars and lectures, lots of individual learning and fieldwork. We can also adapt these methods where necessary to accommodate different learning styles.
The course consists of around 400 hours of lectures and 100 hours of independent learning. You will also need to spend at least 96 hours completing a work placement.
