Course Overview

16 January 2019 - This is term two of a three term course

24 April 2019 - This is term three of a three term course.

This course will teach learners about the principles of dressmaking including pattern selection and cutting/ fabric selection, tools of the trade and basic alterations. All learners will work through a specified pattern to create a garment to fit their (or their models) size and shape. Guidance will be given on an individual basis as to what alterations are needed to the pattern to produce the best fit for the garment. You will learn through observation, demonstrations, group work and practical projects, sharing ideas, skills and opinions. Term 2: This term you will extend your knowledge and techniques, of dressmaking and work on individual projects. New techniques may include: Gathering, facing, seams and hems. Term 3: In Term 3, your understanding and skills learnt will be assessed and this will form the basis of the learning for this term to allow you to continue to extend your knowledge and challenge you further.

Entry Requirements

Learners must have some experience of using a sewing machine and hand sewing.
