Course Overview

Learn the principles of dressmaking with this Introduction to Dressmaking and Fashion course. You will explore topics such as pattern selection and cutting/fabric selection, as well as discover the tools of the trade and how to carry out basic alterations. All learners will work through a specified pattern to create a garment to fit their (or their model’s) size and shape. Our experrt tutors will provide you with individual guidance as to what alterations are needed to the pattern to produce the best fit for your garment. 

Entry Requirements

You must have some experience of using a sewing machine and of hand sewing.

You will work through a specified pattern to create a garment, with one-to-one guidance provided by our expert tutors on what alterations are needed to produce the best fit. 

You will learn through observation, demonstrations, group work and practical projects, while sharing your collective ideas, skills and opinions. Each term is 10 weeks in length, with each session lasting 2 hours. You will also need to do some project work in your own time.
