Course Overview

Develop the skills needed to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL). Whether you would like to hold simple communication with family and friends or you are keen to link BSL skills to your current or future employment, the Level 1 Award in BSL Studies is for you. No previous experience is needed as our experienced tutors guide you through everyday topics such as meeting people, using numbers, weather and instructions. By the end of the course you should have mastered basic conversational skills for using with Deaf people. Delivered over 1.5 for 20 weeks, the course costs £450.

This class-based course is delivered over 1.5 hours a week for 20 weeks. We also recommend you devote additional time to practising your new skills.

Teaching and learning consists of demonstrations, lectures, classroom discussion, research and role play aimed at fulfilling the required assessment criteria.
