Students will draw upon a range of texts as reading stimulus and engage with creative as well as real and relevant contexts.
Students will have opportunities to develop higher-order reading and critical thinking skills that encourage genuine enquiry into different topics and themes.
This specification will ensure that students can read fluently and write effectively.
Students will be able to demonstrate a confident control of Standard English and write grammatically correct sentences, deploying figurative language and analysing texts.
We can offer you a place on this course if you have a grade D or grade 3 at GCSE or Functional Skills at Level 2 in the relevant subject.
We can also offer you an initial assessment if you do not already have a grade D or grade 3.
You will be expected to achieve 70% on the initial assessment.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course is delivered over 30 weeks and you can choose from the different times, days and venues across the College to suit your circumstances.
During the course, we offer the opportunity to access learning online which is supported by a range of excellent interactive resources.

All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
