There are many employability opportunities within the computing industry and at Blackpool & The Fylde College we have a wide range of courses that will provide you with the specialised industry based skills required to work in the sector of your choice. In your first year you will study a range modules including
- Computer programming
- Computer Systems
- Computer networks
- Website design and development
- Human computer interaction
- Game design an development
In the second year you will specialise in subject specific modules related to systems and hardware including
- Organisation security
- Network security
- It systems
- Communication systems
- Maintaining computer systems
Upon completion of this two year course you will have completed the equivalent of three 'A' levels specialised towards network engineering. This qualification will provide you with the opportunity to then progress into higher education or employment.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs including Math and English or a relevant Level 2 qualification
If you are a year 11 student applying for this programme, we will compare your GCSE results with the minimum target grades set for you by your school. This will help us decide whether this is your most suitable programme of study. Other students, including those from outside the area, will have an opportunity to discuss their qualifications and experience to make sure they too are studying at the right level. For some programmes, we might need to observe you carrying out certain practical tasks before we can make you an offer.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Teaching and learning differs for each module, with practical units incorporating a summative assignment that results in product creation. Students are initially supported by demonstrations and walkthroughs and later by a workshop/individual focus intended to foster creativity. Modules are delivered by specialised subject specialists with industry experience.
Facilities and resources are regularly updated to improve your experiences in college and to match the needs of the course.

All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
