Public Services at Blackpool and the Fylde College is an exciting, active and rewarding course delivered by tutors who are experts in their field, these experts can provide you with all the support and guidance you need to get you qualified and employed or for you to progress onto higher level courses.
You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities will be both practical and theory based and include where possible vocational experts currently serving in the Uniformed Public Services.
Keep your options open with the Combined Diploma
Our Combined Diploma programme is for 16-18 year-olds who want to develop their passion and skills in more than one subject. Study this course alongside another Combined Diploma course, with one subject to be studied as a Double Diploma and the other as a Single Diploma. You will spend 3 days a week in College and up to 1 day on a relevant industry placement.
The Combined Diploma is equivalent to studying 3 A-levels, providing the maximum possible 168 UCAS points needed for university or a career in either subject. Successfully complete the course and you will gain a guaranteed place on one of our degree-level courses, awarded by Lancaster University (a UK top 10 university*).
The following subjects can be chosen as part of the Combined Diploma:
- Construction (only available as a Double Diploma)
- Graphics and Digital Design
- Health and Social Care
- Animal Science
- Public Services
- Fine Art (only available as a Single Diploma)
- Performing Arts (only available as a Single Diploma)

1. GCSE in English or Maths (if you have already achieved a 3 in the subject).
2. Functional Skills English or Maths at an appropriate level, depending on entry grades.
3. Tutorial – you will have a one to one every 4 – 5 weeks with your tutor to assess your progress and set targets
4. Work Experience and voluntary opportunities in an area that fits with your career goals.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Our teaching methods are interactive, learner centered and up to date. Every lesson will have planned objectives, a starter activity, learning chunks and a plenary. The main learning activities will be structured to meet different needs, so learners can work at different speeds. Where possible, Lecturers will try to make learning as practical and as hands on as possible, to enhance the learning experience. Individualised teaching and learning suiting all preferred learning styles is key to the delivery of all courses within the School. Lectures, Industry visits, Guest Speakers, Workshops, Group work, Internet and learning resource centre based research, practical sessions are just a few of our methods.

All staff involved in the delivery of any courses within the College are approved to teach and/or assess the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering and/or assessing a given programme are appropriately qualified, with relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
