This L1 course will give you an insight on what it would be like to work within the sport and fitness industry and it is intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. Learners can develop a ‘hands-on’ approach to their learning and gain practical sports and fitness skills and knowledge.
The qualification has a very strong practical element, where you will take part in a variety of different indoor and outdoor sports, familiarising yourself with basic rules, health & safety as well as considering the benefits of taking part. You will also learn about different fitness tests, training methods and will implementing your own fitness-training programme based on your own individual targets. You’ll be getting fit whilst studying and gaining a qualification!
The course is delivered and assessed over six days, three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) for two weeks.
The course is delivered and assessed out of the B&FC Sports Centre on Tuesday afternoons (2pm-5pm) for 12 weeks.
This programme has been designed for those aged 19+. The course is suitable for beginners and students without any prior knowledge or experience of the sports and fitness industry.
Teaching and Learning Methods
At Blackpool and The Fylde College we recognise that all students learn differently and for some it may be a return to the classroom following a break from formal learning. Our tutors work with you to ensure that their teaching methods support the way that you like to learn.
Student will be required to attend all session on site. There will be series of mini lectures to enable learner to complete their portfolio. The course will consist of various fitness and sport practical’s sessions that students will need to take part in. Adaption to physical activities will be given to meet the student’s ability.

All staff involved in the delivery of adult education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
