Course Overview

Develop your photography skills with this exciting and challenging course. Our specialist staff will encourage you to stretch your creative boundaries while supporting you to develop technical competence in this thought-provoking medium.

Areas of study include fashion, portraiture, landscape and experimental genres to help you to identify your future career direction, build confidence as a professional photographer and/or prepare for higher level study.

You will explore both traditional and cutting edge processes, learn the essential elements of photographic practice
in our fully equipped darkroom, and also experiment with different cameras and creative lighting techniques in our studio spaces.

This course is a Double Diploma (2 days a week). You can customise your study with another course from a choice of 17 subjects for another 1 day a week.

Our Combined Diploma programme is for 16-18 year-olds who want to develop their passion and skills in more than one subject. Study this course alongside another Combined Diploma course, with one subject to be studied as
a Double Diploma and the other as a Single Diploma. You will spend 3 days a week in College and up to 1 day on a relevant industry placement.

The Combined Diploma is equivalent to studying 3 A-levels, providing the maximum possible 168 UCAS points needed for university or a career in either subject. Successfully complete the course and you will gain a guaranteed
place on one of our degree-level courses, awarded by Lancaster University (a UK top 10 university*).

The following subjects can be chosen as part of the Combined Diploma:

Entry Requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English Language and one of the following: Art,
Design, Graphics or Photography. Alternatively, you will need a relevant Level 2 Diploma at Merit, plus
English Language at minimum grade C/4.

You will be working on practical assignments, producing photography work using a wide variety of techniques. You will also have the opportunity to be experimental in your work.

You will be expected to research, plan, explore, develop, produce and then evaluate your ideas, and you will have the chance to show off your work at an exciting end-of-year exhibition.
