A career as a fishmonger is hugely rewarding and no two days are ever the same. They carry out a wealth of different tasks and develop a multitude of different skills.
Fishmongers are responsible for preparing and selling fish, and shellfish products, to members of the public. They possess first class customer service and selling skills, and have a deep understanding of the fish and shellfish industry, species identification, preparation methods, and detailed product knowledge.
Fish mongering is a highly skilled profession which is steeped in tradition. A qualified fishmonger could work in a range of different types of businesses including supermarket fish counters, independent high street fishmongers, and mobile fish vans. Talented fishmongers can go on to manage and even own their own fish mongering business.
These vary from employer to employer. The typical requirements are 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or higher.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Your apprenticeship is delivered entirely in the workplace, with teaching delivered through online resources and on a 1-2-1 basis by your skills coach and employer.

All staff involved in the delivery of apprenticeships within the College are approved to train and support the students in the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified, with relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.
