Lesley Wareing

Co-opted Subject Specialist

Retired – Former Academic Registrar and Deputy University Secretary at Lancaster University

Lesley spent the majority of her working life in the public service/educational sector in a variety of different roles.

She worked at Lancaster University until her retirement in 2016 and helped develop and deliver policy and practice in the areas of learning, teaching and assessment, quality assurance and institutional governance.

From 2006 she had institutional-level  responsibility for supporting the University’s international and UK collaborative teaching partnerships (including Blackpool and the Fylde College and Blackburn College).

She was Clerk to Council (the University’s governing body) from 2009 to 2012.

Lesley has a good understanding of institutional governance in the educational sector including the role of governing bodies and the role of external members of governing bodies. She has extensive experience of rising to the challenges faced by institutions in the HE and FE sector and the particular challenges faced by FE colleges.

Lesley was a member of the Corporation Board of Blackburn College (and chaired the Curriculum and Quality Committee) from 2010 to 2015 and since September 2016 has been the HE subject expert member of the Quality and Standards Committee at Blackpool and the Fylde College.

She is Clerk to her local parish council and has taken up painting and drawing again - in a serious way - after many years of being too busy to pick up a paintbrush.
