Studied BENG Hons Mechanical Engineering at B&FC • Adult Learner/Career Change (Age: 28) / Graduated July 2019

My Story

“I followed on straight from a HNC course, and my job required me to have knowledge in mechanical engineering principles. I have previously worked at Leyland Trucks for twelve years in various roles before deciding to come back to do my degree, and I think my knowledge needed refreshing. I chose to come here because is the best option there was available for the topics I am interested in and wanted to study, and the duration I needed to study for. Overall, the benefits of Blackpool and the Fylde College outweighed all of the other colleges in the area.”

My B&FC

“I really enjoyed the ability to adopt my learning into my work, and although sometimes new topics were difficult to grasp, the relationship of work and the topics, in general, was enjoyable. The tutors were mostly supportive when I needed them to be, and the classes were a good size to learn in. I only studied one day a week at the college, which, although time consuming when I was still working, it was manageable. I’m really glad that I followed on from my HNC course, because I think that if I’d have had a break in between, I’d have found it harder to return. Like I said before, some of the topics I found a bit more difficult than others, but if I could say anything to people just starting, I’d say to not overthink the work, Just answer what’s being asked and you’ll be fine.”

My Next Move...

“I’m now going on to study a Masters in Business Administration to further my skills and eventually I’d love to move up in my job from a supplier quality manager to a supplier quality director. That’s the dream.”

My Opportunities

“Because I’m already in full-time work, I did not have or need to do any placements or work experience.”
