Ian Hirstwood


Ian began his career as an apprentice joiner at the age of 16, while studying his City and Guilds Craft Certificate on a day release basis at Palatine Road Construction College.

He continued working in the industry as both a bench hand joiner and site carpenter until five years ago, when he was offered a part-time teaching role at B&FC.

Ian is now Programme Leader for Carpentry and Joinery.

• Pearson Level 5 BTEC Diploma in Education and Training - July 2015

Industry Background

I have 30 years’ experience working in the construction industry on both domestic and commercial properties. Half this time was spent working at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, heading a team of specialist carpenters to implement structural restoration and new features.
