What will I learn? How will I be assessed? Key information Where could this course take me? Course SummaryThis Level 1 plastering programme introduces students to all the key techniques required in this in-demand trade. You will be taught the full process of many different plastering applications which will allow you to either progress to a higher level or complete plastering tasks both domestically and within industry. There is flexibility in how the course is taught allowing tutors to adapt projects to suit the skills sets of individual students from those with little or no experience to ones who already have a grasp of the basics. You will learn: Different techniques for internal and external applications How to apply dot/dab - direct wall bond Modern and traditional plastering applications such as K-Rend/Weber How to apply internal finishes such as overskim, application to plasterboards and solid backgrounds. Entry Requirements This is an entry level course so there are no specific requirements for the programme. You will need basic English and maths and a knowledge of some simple computing to be able to complete the course successfully. If you are struggling in any of these areas, we can help you acquire these skills and support you to gain qualifications which will help to increase your employability going forward. Please note: Where wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a mandatory requirement of the course, it is the responsibility of the learner to ensure that they are able to wear such equipment. Learning and Teaching Methods This course is very practical in nature and, whilst some time will be spent explaining materials and techniques, students can anticipate spending most of their time in the workshop watching plastering demonstrations before attempting the various applications themselves. Industry expert tutors will be on hand to offer advice and provide valuable feedback to help students improve their skills. Assessment Methods Throughout the course, you will be observe and given feedback to help you develop your plastering skills set. You will be assessed on how well you can apply the various techniques you have learnt and on the standard of finish you are able to achieve. You will also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the properties of the different materials and when and where to use them. However, there is no formal exam and most of the assessment will be practical in nature.
