Essential Skills – English and Maths If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme. At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject. Qualification ObtainedT Level Technical Qualification in Education and Early Years Industry Placement and Field TripsThis course features a 750-hour work placement over the two years, designed to enhance learning and increase your employability. Appropriate settings where you could be placed include primary schools, afterschool clubs and breakfast clubs. We will also invite you to attend mandatory relevant field trips and career events, which you could draw from to enhance your CV and personal statement. Learning and Teaching Methods In Year 1 you will study: Early Yeats Foundation Stage and National Curriculum Child Development Supporting Education Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Wellbeing Behaviour Observation and Assessment Equality and Diversity Special Educational Needs and Disability English as an Additional Language Parents, Families and Carers Working with Others In Year 2, you will choose to study a Specialist Pathway in Assisting Teaching and study modules in: Supporting the class teacher in implementing the National Curriculum Plan, provide and review educational opportunities Safeguard and promote health, safety and wellbeing of children Respond to children’s additional needs Support access to curriculum for children with special educational needs. This is a full-time course, involving 3 days a week spent at College and 2 days a week on work placement in a school setting. We will also expect you to spend at least 4 hours a week on independent learning. At College, teaching is delivered in groups and supported by group activities and discussions. One-to-one support is also provided to help with completing written assignments. When you start the course we will assign you a progress tutor who will support you throughout your time here. Their role is to help you in setting academic and personal targets, identifying career plans, developing employability skills and monitoring your progress to make sure you realise your full potential. Expert Tutors All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver. The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice. Assessment Methods This two-year T Level is structured into two components. Year 1 contains Core units, assessed through an examination and an employer-set project. In Year 2, you will choose study a Specialist Pathway in Assisting Teaching. These units are assessed through practical assignments. The qualification is dependent on you achieving a total of 750 work placement hours (365 hours in Year 1 and 385 in Year 2. While on placement, you will need to prepare activities and deliver them to children. Students who pass all the elements of their T Level will get a nationally recognised certificate showing an overall grade of pass, merit or distinction. It will also set out the details of what students have achieved on the course. The T Level certificate will include: an overall pass grade for the T Level, shown as pass, merit or distinction a separate grade for the occupational specialism, shown as pass, merit or distinction a separate grade for the core component, using A* to E grades for maths and English qualifications details of the industry placement Other Costs and Equipment NeededYou will need to possess suitable flat, black footwear and black trousers for your industry placement. You will also need a range of resources including pens, paper and a folder for your college work. B&FC will provide you with a DBS and the rest of your placement uniform. Should you wish to progress from this T Level to a Primary Teaching degree, you will need to satisfy university entry requirements - 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a science-related subject, English and Maths.
