Course Overview

The Aerospace Engineering FdEng and BEng (Hons) degree apprenticeship programme is unique in the education sector as in has been developed in partnership with industry leaders BAE Systems, creating an industry relevant degree education that will continue to be developed and partnered through wider industry consultation, ensuring that these courses continue to be industry specific and high quality.

The degree qualification is awarded by Lancaster University, which has been consistently been ranked in the top 10 in recent years by UK league tables and in the top 150 worldwide by the main global rankings.

The course explores the complex world of aerospace engineering from a holistic perspective, creating the engineers of the future. Your skills will be developed in systems engineering approaches, technical competences covering electrical, electronic and mechanical systems, aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, design, engineering management, and aircraft principles.

You will also develop an appreciation of the through life complexities of the aerospace business including how to support environmental and operational changes to aircraft platforms once they are delivered to the customer.
 

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for a degree apprenticeship you must first be employed within an appropriate setting/sector and have confirmation of sponsorship.

You will need a minimum of 80 UCAS points (excluding Functional Skills) in an appropriate discipline and GCSEs in English Language, maths and a science subject at grade 4 (previously grade C) or above.

Your employer will be able to offset the tuition fees associated with this programme against the apprenticeship levy; they should seek financial guidance on this through professional services.

Teaching and Learning Methods

This course is delivered on a modular basis, delivering the qualification over three years of study full-time, or four to five years part-time depending upon the progression route that is chosen. The course is also available for Blended and/or distance learning options for all or part of the qualification.

We will allocate you your own personal tutor who will guide you throughout the course, support your development, advise you on future career paths and generally help you to get the most out of your time with us.

Study days can be arranged for convenience with the workplace schedule of the employer, but would consist of a minimum of two days full-time or 1 day part-time.

Teaching methods range from lectures and seminars, through group tutorials, to working in small groups in laboratories, including our engine test facility, materials and aerodynamics labs. You will also have open access to our online course resources.

Independent study makes up a significant portion of Higher Education, hence it is expected that work is undertaken in addition to the allocated study day. Here, we provide a structure which gradually eases you into the structure of Higher Education, proving the best opportunity for you to develop your academic skills and literacy.
