School Leavers

At B&FC we focus our advice not simply on what you want to do now, but where you want to go in the future. We look at your career aspirations and make sure you take the right steps to stay on track and achieve your goals.

Find my course
We get it. Deciding what to do after you finish school isn't always easy. You might feel pressured to follow your friends. You might not even know what you want to do next. Or you may know exactly where you want to be, just not sure how to get there.

At Blackpool and The Fylde College, we want you to make the right decision. Not for your friends. Not because someone else thinks you should. But because it's right for you. And because it will take you to where you want to be.

Find my course

Know what subject you want to study? Then check out our dedicated course search page for school leavers. You'll be able to select different subject areas and see what qualifications we offer in each.

What qualifications can I study?

At B&FC, we have three routes to choose from:

  • T Levels
  • Diplomas
  • Apprenticeships

All our school leaver qualifications focus on a single subject area allowing you to build a genuinely wide-ranging knowledge base. And because they are tailored to the needs of industry, you will pick up key skills and techniques that you will readily be able to apply once you're in work.

You won't have to wait too long to practise these though, as industry placements are embedded in the curriculum on virtually all our 16-18 courses. Our diplomas offer short placements with the chance to work on live briefs, whilst our T Levels give you an extended period of time in the workplace allowing you to really develop your skills beyond the classroom. Apprenticeships, on the other hand, are 80% work-based with just one day a week in college.

T Levels: What do I need to know?

  • Outstanding facilities - £4.75 million spent on upgrades in 2022/23 alone

  • Widest choice of T Levels in the North-West

  • Relevant industry placements with 1,800 employer partners

What are my options?

  • T Levels

If you're academically strong but you have a skilled career route in mind, a T-Level will give you a head start into your chosen industry.

  • Diplomas

Our Diploma courses allow you to build specialist knowledge in a particular subject area with an emphasis on developing industry-relevant skills, helping you progress in your chosen career.

What students say about B&FC...

I've found it easier to make friends, talk to my tutors and get involved in activities here.
Tyler Minto, Level 3 Public Services (Uniformed)
The support I've received from the tutors has been amazing - they will always go the extra mile to help if you ask!
Ben Armstrong, Level 2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
I've loved being at College so my advice would be to make the most of every day as it all goes so quickly in the end.
Claudiu Mathe, T Level Construction
Don't be afraid to ask questions, be confident in yourself and remember, everything takes time so be patient too.
Hope Childs-Manley, Level 2 Hair and Media Make-Up
The class sizes are smaller so there's plenty of one-to-one support and the range of equipment you can use is fantastic.
Kinga Wrobel, Level 3 Triple Diploma Photography
The help here was great and I really felt part of a closely knit group. Everyone on the course supported each other which is probably why we all did so well.
Jessica Holroyd, T Level School Teaching
The mix of coursework and exams really suited me and the placement allowed to experiment more than I would in the classroom which accelerated my learning.
Luke Hardwick, T Level Digital Production, Design & Development
There is a relationship you can build with tutors here where you feel like you can always reach out for help with anything.
Oliver Penny, Level 3 Triple Diploma Aeronautical Engineering
Doing a placement gave me a better insight into the kinds of careers I could go into. Before I started I wanted to become a midwife but I realised through the placement that a healthcare assistant was a better fit for me.
Molly Cook, T Level Health
See your tutor as someone who is there to help and support you. You don't have to 'perform' like you may have felt you had to do in school. You're here to learn and the environment really supports that.
Tom Fox, Level 2 Culinary Skills
The small class sizes meant I got to know my fellow students and tutors really well. I also enjoyed the fact that the course was very hands-on.
Ferne Skinner, Level 3 Animal Science
The learning environment is fun and the tutors are really supportive.
Deetray Jarrett, Level 3 Sport & Fitness
The tutors are great, very supportive and push you to perform to the best of your ability. It's also really friendly and everyone gets on.
Olivia Wright, Level 2 Travel & Tourism
