Assessment Prior Learning and Ongoing Assessment We ask about any qualifications you already have and grades achieved. Maths and English elements of the course are assessed to determine your level and set you up for success. Ongoing tutor feedback will assess your progress. Portfolio Evidence and Exams You will build a portfolio for assessment to demonstrate your progress. Although the majority of your course is portfolio-based, maths and English exams assess your essential skills. Assessment Methods A range of assessment methods are used to ensure every learner has an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and progress throughout the course in different ways. Evidence-based Assessment Each module is linked to Personal and Social Development, NCFE and the Prince's Trust Achieve Programme. Assessments can take the form of coursework and portfolio evidence building, practical observations, question and answer, and fun activities. Your chosen vocational pathway (vocational taster) is also assessed on coursework and practical evidence for which you will receive an in-house qualification. Your coursework and qualifications are valuable to a potential employer, offering you the opportunity to prove you have gained the entry skills needed to work in your chosen industry. Tutor Assessment Your tutors will set you targets so that they can provide you with regular ongoing verbal and written feedback to continuously assess your progress and learning. Tutor feedback is important, and tutors aim to offer you positive and constructive advice to help you achieve your individual targets and goals. Group and 1 to 1 discussions enable your tutor to assess group and individual progress. Your tutor will show you how you can also track your own progress at home or in college, to help you achieve your individual targets. Peer Assessment An effective buddy system is used to help you build your confidence, and work together to help each other develop skills and knowledge. Exams While the majority of the course is portfolio-based, Functional Skills Maths and English assessments have an exam at the end of the course giving you a GCSE equivalent qualification.
